A little Introduction
I was born in Brooklyn, New York. I fought for every inch of my place on the stages of Broadway and in the world of international music. I had no one but myself. No parents to open doors, no powerful relatives to clear the way.
And yet, through persistence and grace, I reached the heights of the industry. I sang alongside legends: Madonna, Aretha Franklin, Prince, and many others whose names carry the weight of history.
The Pandemic and the beginning of my no-profit
But I held on to a truth: my life would mean nothing if I did not give back. If I did not help.
That is why, in 2020, when the world seemed to collapse under fear and restrictions, I could no longer remain silent. My heart broke watching children, the elderly, and the forgotten go without food.
So I acted. We gathered and distributed over 100,000 meals. We provided resources for the most basic human needs.
I bought a $32,000 van for a kitchen in New York so meals could reach those who had nothing and to the elderly.
I traveled to Africa myself, carrying food to children with no one else to protect them.
Human Trafficking: a problem that affect all of us
But I have learned something since then: the most devastating crises are not always measured in hunger.
There is another plague, an ancient cruelty still alive today: human trafficking. It is an atrocity that denies the very civilization we aspire to.
Even as humanity advances with artificial intelligence, even as rockets reach for the Moon and Mars, innocent victims are stolen and sold every single day in a hidden market.
How we are going to fight it
As a foundation, as an artist, and as a woman, I feel the duty to awaken hearts and to remind the world of its humanity. A truly sustainable future begins with recognizing the worth of every life, especially the radiant value of women.
If you are a parent, you know. The dangers lie closer than we think. Technology has opened doors not only to progress but also to predators who hide behind false identities. Our children are exposed, unprepared, unprotected. No one is truly immune.
And so, during Miami Art Week, the Foundation will host an exclusive evening, a private gathering of collectors and philanthropists, where we will dream of a better future and begin to shape it together.
